Magali Van den Bergh, MD
Dr. Van den Bergh is an oncologist and hematologist with Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute In Lee County. She graduated magna cum laude from Northwestern State University with a dual degree in Biology and Chemistry, while competing in Division I college tennis. After earning her medical degree (M.D.) with honors among the top five in her class at the American University of the Caribbean, she completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Connecticut. She was awarded a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute/University of South Florida, where she was appointed as Chief Fellow.
As a principal investigator, Dr. Van den Bergh has led multiple clinical research studies with a focus on lymphomas, chronic leukemias, and lymphoproliferative disorders. She has presented her medical research at various national and international conferences, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago and the European Hematology Association (EHA) Congress in Madrid, Spain. Furthermore, Dr. Van den Bergh authored a number of book chapters in oncologic textbooks and published various peer-reviewed articles and abstracts in leading medical journals. Her academic achievements have been recognized with several awards: she is the recipient of the European Hematology Association Travel Award, two-fold recipient of the Young Investigator SOHO Travel Grant, as well as two-fold recipient of the ASCO Travel Grant.
As a Belgian native, Dr. Van den Bergh is fluent in three languages. Throughout her medical career, she has participated in charity and humanitarianism, including volunteering as a leader for a medical mission trip in the Dominican Republic. She is actively engaged in multiple hematologic and oncologic organizations and serves as a patient advocate in the FLASCO legislative committee to improve clinical research and the care of cancer patients in the state of Florida. Dr. Van den Bergh treats all hematologic and oncologic malignancies as well as benign hematologic disorders.
