Anjan J. Patel, MD

Dr. Patel is an oncologist and hematologist with Florida Cancer Specialists and Research Institute in Sarasota County. He received his undergraduate degree from The University of Florida (UF) with highest honors. He obtained his MD from Florida State University College of Medicine and his training in Internal Medicine at the Georgetown University Hospital and Washington Hospital Center In Washington, DC. After completing his Fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at UF, Dr. Patel joined Florida Cancer Specialists at our Sarasota Downtown location. His research and practice interests include colorectal, pancreatic/hepatobiliary and lung cancers, as well as malignant and non-malignant hematology.

Dr. Patel serves as an Associate Professor at the Florida State University College of Medicine and currently participates in the education of medical students and medical residents. As a cancer researcher, he is actively engaged in clinical studies and has served as a principal investigator in several clinical trials. He is published in numerous international peer-reviewed journals, such as The Lancet Oncology, JAMA Oncology, Haemophilia and the Annals of Pharmacology, and he has presented at national meetings, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology. Topics of his publications include GI cancers, lung cancers, pharmacology and hemostasis/coagulation. Dr. Patel sits on the Executive Board of Florida Cancer Specialists serving as the Audit Committee Chair, Research Office Chair and a member of the FCS Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee. He provides leadership on numerous committees at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

The recipient of numerous patient care awards, Dr. Patel has been described as calm, confident and kind-hearted. His interests include scuba diving, traveling, reading and, most of all, spending time with his family.
