Robert McDonald, MD, FACNM

Robert McDonald, MD, FACNM is a board-certified nuclear medicine physician with Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute.

After receiving his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Dr. McDonald completed additional training in Pathology. He completed residency training in Nuclear Medicine at the University of California Irvine Medical Center in Orange, California, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Long Beach, California and at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.

Dr. McDonald has held positions in both inpatient and outpatient settings during his more than 30 year career, and has practiced in California, Oregon and Florida. Dr. McDonald has been the Medical Director for diagnostic imaging at FCS since 2016. Previously, Dr. McDonald practiced at MD Anderson in Orlando and in private practice in Ft. Myers and Portland, Oregon.

Dr. McDonald has been an investigator in multiple clinical trials, with interests in radioisotope therapy and prostate cancer imaging. He has been a speaker at national and regional scientific meetings and a participant at clinical symposiums across the U.S.

A fellow of the American College of Nuclear Medicine, Dr. McDonald is recognized among a select group of physicians honored by their peers for their contributions to better their profession beyond their day-to-day work. Dr. McDonald is also an active member of the Society of Medicine & Molecular Imaging and past president of the Southeast and Pacific Northwest Chapter

In addition to reading diagnostic scans, Dr. McDonald subspecializes in the administration of radioisotope therapies and has been providing therapies with FCS since 2013. He is among national leaders in overall number of patients treated.
