Pathology Lab

Florida Cancer Specialists Pathology The Florida Cancer Specialists pathology lab is a state-of-the-art facility staffed with highly specialized laboratory scientists, five Hematopathologists, and two surgical pathologists to serve the needs of our practice.

A hematopathologist specializes in the evaluation of hematopoietic cells, which originate in the bone marrow and produce the cellular components of blood (red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets). The pathology laboratory is located in Fort Myers and serves the entire practice.

Specimens from all of our clinical sites are sent directly to our lab.

Pairing the highest quality hematopathology testing with a cutting edge LIS (laboratory information system) that is directly integrated with our electronic medical record (OncoEMR) results in laboratory services that are uniquely efficient.

Pathology Lab In collaboration with NeoGenomics, the FCS lab is able to provide both the technical analysis and professional evaluation of all aspects of a comprehensive hematopathology report. This includes histology, immunohistochemistry (IHC), in situ hybridization (ISH), flow cytometry, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and cytogenetics. FCS has a PhD Cytogeneticist that serves as Director of Cytogenetics. FCS specifically performs the flow cytometry, histology/morphology, and FISH portions. Prosigna Breast Cancer Prognostic Gene Signature Assay is performed by FCS.

Our pathologists are in regular contact with all FCS clinicians which facilitates the immediate reporting of clinically important information. Our turn-around times are greatly assisted by the centralized location for all testing and a courier system set up specifically for the needs of our group.

Lab Services

Lab Services Florida Cancer Specialists is committed to providing high quality, timely and friendly laboratory services for our patients.  Each office laboratory is fully accredited* and licensed by both federal and state agencies. We serve our patients’ laboratory needs locally, therefore limiting trips to multiple locations normally required for routine and specialized laboratory testing.

Routine laboratory tests are ordered, collected and performed on site and/or transported daily to our central laboratory facility for testing. The FCS central laboratory uses the most modern technology available.

Results for routine testing can be available for your scheduled office visit within minutes of collection.

Other test results are typically available for your physician within 24 hours of collection. At the request of your physician, we may send specialized testing to other outside reference laboratories for state-of-the-art specialized testing.
