Florida Cancer Specialists Spring Hill Office Receives Blanket Warmer Donation
Spring Hill, Fla., Feb. 26, 2021 — Many cancer patients experience chills during and following their chemotherapy treatments, even in the hot Florida summers. Thanks to the recent donation of a blanket warmer machine, Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute’s (FCS) County Line Road patients will be much more comfortable during their treatments. This week, physicians and staff gathered to accept the machine gifted by Bobbi Norris, the wife of late philanthropist Dave Norris, and their Make A Difference Today Foundation.
The donation is part of their campaign to raise $250,000 for 55 blanket warmers across FCS offices statewide. The first was presented to the FCS Lakewood Ranch clinic in 2016, where Dave received treatment. This is the fifteenth machine donated to FCS.
While undergoing chemotherapy to combat stomach cancer, Dave learned first-hand the unrelenting sensation of cold, which caused him to dress in multiple layers and wear mittens in the middle of Florida’s hot summer. His experience inspired the couple to help other cancer patients keep warm during treatment.
Physicians and staff from FCS Spring Hill accept the donation of a blanket warmer machine from Make A Difference Today Foundation.
“A warm blanket can mean the world to a patient,” said Dr. Vikas Malhotra. “The kindness and generosity of the Norris family and their Foundation is deeply appreciated and will provide comfort to patients for years to come.”
