Florida Cancer Specialists Venice Island Office Receives Blanket Warmer Donation

Venice, Fla., Feb. 23, 2021 — Cancer patients receiving infusions at the Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS) location on Venice Island will be much more comfortable during their treatments, thanks to the recent donation of a blanket warmer machine. Physicians and staff gathered this week to accept the donation gifted by Bobbi Norris, the wife of late philanthropist Dave Norris, and their Make A Difference Today Foundation. The donation is part of their campaign to raise $250,000 for 55 blanket warmers across FCS offices statewide. The first was presented to the FCS Lakewood Ranch clinic in 2016, where Dave received treatment.

While undergoing chemotherapy to combat stomach cancer, Dave learned first-hand the unrelenting sensation of cold, which caused him to dress in multiple layers and wear mittens in the middle of Florida’s hot summer. His experience inspired the couple to help other cancer patients keep warm during treatment.

“It is not unusual for patients undergoing chemotherapy to experience cold during and following treatment,” said FCS medical oncologist Dr. Noel A. Maun. “It’s heartwarming to witness this remarkable act of generosity. The Norrises established such a meaningful way to give of themselves to assist others and provide comfort.”
