Pathology Lab

The FCS pathology lab is a state of the art facility with a highly trained staff that includes one part-time and three full-time Hematopathologists to serve the needs of our practice. A hematopathologist specializes in the evaluation of hematopoietic cells, which originate in the bone marrow and produce the cellular components of blood (red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets). Pathology services are integrated with the FCS Flow Cytometry laboratory, which is located in Ft. Myers and serves the entire practice.

Specimens from all of our clinical sites are sent to our partner Neogenomics, which is located just across the street from the lab. Together, we provide a streamlined service using a coordinated courier service and covering nearly the entire state of Florida. Our unique efficiency results in the highest quality hematopathology testing and a cutting edge LIS (laboratory information service), which is directly integrated with our electronic medical record (OncoEMR).

In collaboration with Neogenomics, the FCS lab is able to provide both the technical analysis and the professional evaluation of all aspects of a comprehensive hematopathology report. This includes histology, immunohistochemistry (IHC), in situ hybridization (ISH), flow cytometry, florescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). FCS specifically performs the flow cytometry, histology/morphology, and paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) portions.

Our pathologists are in regular contact with all of the clinicians, allowing immediate reporting of clinically important information. Our turn-around times are greatly assisted by the immediate location for all testing and a courier system set up specifically for the needs of our group.
