Vikas Malhotra, MD
Dr. Malhotra is a medical oncologist and hematologist for Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute in Hernando County.
He has been caring for patients with cancer for over 10 years. After graduating from medical school at the University of Delhi in India, he completed internal medicine residency training at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. While there, Dr. Malhotra received the Best Resident and Best Teaching resident award and served as the program’s chief resident.
After practicing as an internist in Missouri for three years, Dr. Malhotra completed a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at the University of Missouri. He was later appointed assistant professor of medicine at the University of Missouri and was recognized with the Best Medical Student Teacher award. Active in clinical trials, Dr. Malhotra has authored several publications on breast cancer and esophageal cancer, as well as articles on UpTo Date® online, an evidence-based knowledge system authored by physicians to help clinicians improve the quality of patient care.
Dr. Malhotra moved to private practice in Florida in 2003 and joined FCS in 2012. He is board-certified in internal medicine, medical oncology and hematology, and has served as an Executive Committee member for FLASCO, the Florida Society of Clinical Oncology. He is an active supporter of several cancer charities, including “Relay for Life” and “Making Strides.”
Dr. Malhotra serves on the FCS Executive Board and as a member of Core Ventures.
He is married and the proud father of two sons.

No one in Shannon Gunn’s family ever had cancer. Thankfully, she listened to her body and got checked out when she discovered a lump on her breast. After 10 months of aggressive treatment, the marathon runner and fitness trainer completed the Sunshine Skyway 10K race and soon crossed the finish line of the treatment phase of her cancer journey.
