Augusto E. Villegas, MD
Dr. Villegas is an oncologist for Florida Cancer Specialists and Research Institute in Clay, Duval and St. Johns Counties. He earned his medical degree from Ponce School of Medicine in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Damas Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program in Ponce, PR. He served as Chief Resident during his third year of training. After completion of residency Dr. Villegas initiated his private practice in Ponce, in addition to serving as a clinical instructor at Ponce School of Medicine and as Director of Ambulatory Services at Ponce Correctional Complex.
In 2003, Dr. Villegas relocated in Jacksonville, Fl to pursue his career in Medical Oncology. He completed his fellowship training in Medical Oncology at University of Florida Health Science Center in Jacksonville Campus in 2005. Upon completion, he decided to stay in Jacksonville and join private practice. Dr. Villegas is an active faculty member and lecturer for the Orange Park Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Villegas’ research interests include breast cancer, lung cancer and immunotherapies. He has been published in several peer reviewed journals and Dr. Villegas has presented at various symposiums and national scientific meetings, including the 2017 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the 2015 World Conference on Lung Cancer.
