Susmitha Apuri, MD

Dr. Apuri is a board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist with Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute in Citrus County. Her research and practice interests include breast, lung and colorectal malignancies, as well as malignant and non-malignant hematology.

Actively engaged in clinical research, Dr. Apuri has served as a principal investigator and co-investigator in multiple clinical trials involving advanced melanoma, breast cancer and peripheral T-cell lymphoma.

Dr. Apuri earned her medical degree from NTR University of Health Sciences in Vijayawada, India. She completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and her fellowship in hematology/oncology at the University of South Florida/H. Lee Moffitt Cancer & Research Institute in Tampa, where she also served as an assistant professor. She was appointed as a Florida Society of Clinical Oncology (FLASCO) liaison during her fellowship and participated in multiple educational sessions.

Published in several peer-reviewed journals, Dr. Apuri has co-authored various book chapters and presented her research at multiple national conferences, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology, Society of Hematologic Oncology and the Miami Breast Cancer Conference. She is a member of the FCS Quality Committee.

Dr. Apuri is fluent in Telugu and Hindi. She enjoys spending time with her family, volunteering for the underserved, reading, traveling and doing outdoor activities.
