
Shannon Stockton, MD
Dr. Stockton is a board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist with Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute in Pinellas County. She has a specialized focus in the treatment of gastrointestinal tumors and breast cancer. As an oncologist, she values the connections she is able to form with her patients and being able to support them through their cancer diagnosis.
Dr. Stockton graduated with honors from the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville and received numerous accolades throughout her medical training. Dr. Stockton was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) National Medical Honor Society during her internal medicine residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, in recognition of her commitment and contributions to high quality patient care, leadership, service and scholarship.
During her hematology/oncology fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, she received funding to support research and career development in oncology and was presented with the Outstanding Hematology/Oncology Fellow Award from the Tennessee Oncology Practice Society for her original research on the evolution of Phase 1 clinical trials in the era of precision oncology.
Dr. Stockton has been actively involved in clinical research. Since 2021, she has researched gastrointestinal tumors and assisted with Phase 1 and 2 clinical trial development and management. She has co-authored manuscripts and abstracts published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at professional symposiums.
Equally committed to community service, she has volunteered her time to provide medical care to underserved residents in Gainesville, Florida, participated in a medical mission trip to Mexico and, as an undergraduate, founded and presided over a non-profit organization to provide clothing to trauma victims and hospital patients in need of clothing.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Stockton enjoys being outdoors as much as possible, especially hiking and exploring national parks with her family.
