Susmitha Apuri, MD
Dr. Apuri is a medical oncologist and hematologist with Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute in Citrus County.
Board certified in medical oncology, hematology and internal medicine, Dr. Apuri earned her medical degree from NTR University of Health Sciences in Vijayawada, India. She completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and her fellowship in hematology/oncology at the University of South Florida/H. Lee Moffitt Cancer and Research Institute in Tampa, where she also served as an assistant professor. She was appointed as a Florida Society of Clinical Oncology (FLASCO) liaison during her fellowship and participated in multiple educational sessions.
Dr. Apuri’s research and practice interests include breast, lung and colorectal malignancies, and malignant as well as non-malignant hematology. Actively engaged in clinical trials, Dr. Apuri has served as a principal investigator and co-investigator in multiple clinical trials involving advanced melanoma, breast cancer and peripheral T-cell lymphoma.
Published in several peer-reviewed journals, Dr. Apuri has co-authored various book chapters. She has presented her research at multiple national conferences, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology, Society of Hematologic Oncology and the Miami Breast Cancer Conference.
Dr. Apuri is fluent in Telugu and Hindi. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, volunteering for the underserved, reading, traveling and other outdoor activities.
