Maen Hussein, MD
Maen Hussein, MD is an oncologist and hematologist for Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute in Brownwood and The Villages Cancer Center.
Triple board-certified, Dr. Hussein has been providing oncology care to patients in community settings for more than 20 years. He chose to become an oncologist to be part of the “amazing new discoveries” that are contributing to advancements in cancer treatment and bringing new hope to patients. He enjoys working with his patients and strives to always do more to help them feel better. Through his work with support groups, he helps educate patients and their families so that they are better equipped for their cancer journey.
An active cancer researcher and advocate for the vital importance of clinical trials, Dr. Hussein has served as principal investigator on numerous clinical trials with a focus on lung cancer. His work has been published and presented in prestigious industry publications and symposiums. Notably, Dr. Hussein served as principal investigator and co-author of a clinical study that led to FDA approval of a new immunotherapy that improves chemotherapy treatment outcomes for patients with metastatic non small-cell lung cancer (mNSCLC).
In 2024, Dr. Hussein was appointed to the FCS Thoracic Disease Site Team of renowned cancer experts working to accelerate groundbreaking advancements in the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of cancer through late-stage clinical research.
Through his tireless and enthusiastic leadership participation, Dr. Hussein consistently demonstrates his passion for enhancing patient access to affordable oncology care of the highest quality. He currently serves on the FCS Executive Board finance committee and on the FCS Foundation board of directors, of which he is the immediate past chair.
He also serves as president of the Florida Society of Clinical Oncology (FLASCO) board of directors, a statewide non-profit organization committed to facilitating and promoting multidisciplinary efforts for oncology practitioners and professionals to improve patient care in Florida.
In 2023, Targeted Oncology ™ named Dr. Hussein as a recipient of its Oncology Icons Award, which celebrates the outstanding achievements of professionals who have significantly impacted the oncology landscape. Additional, Dr. Hussein was a recipient of the Leesburg Regional Medical Center Foundation Hope in Healing Humanitarian Award (2014) and the Leesburg Regional Medical Center Outstanding Achievement Award (2010).
Dr. Hussein received his medical degree from the University of Jordan in Amman. He then completed residency training at Brown University’s Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket, Rhode Island and a fellowship in medical oncology at St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri.
In his free time, Dr. Hussein enjoys playing recreational soccer, building Legos, traveling and spending quality time with family and friends.
