Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute Real World Evidence Enhances Understanding of Breast Cancer Treatment
Study Findings Presented at San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium
Fort Myers, Fla., December 9, 2025 – Real-world evidence (RWE) gathered from care delivered by Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute, LLC (FCS) to more than one million patients annually is accelerating global understanding of many forms of cancer and other diseases, including breast cancer, the most common cancer among women worldwide. One recent study that provides a comprehensive, longitudinal view of patient health and outcomes will be presented this week at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium®.
FCS President & Managing Physician Lucio N. Gordan, MD said, “By harnessing our proprietary real-world evidence capabilities that encompass patient-reported characteristics and outcomes, clinical research, and market insights, FCS is informing improvements in care, equity, treatment innovation, and patient-centered decision-making.”
FCS co-authors of the study, ”Physicians’ Perception & Impact of Quality Improvement Intervention: AI-enabled HER2-low Metastatic Breast Cancer Patient Notification Program,” to be shared in a poster session, are Dr. Gordan, Maen Hussein, MD, director of value-based care, Amanda Warner, MS, BSN, director, real-world evidence, Aya Alajrash, clinical data engineer, and Parth Kothiya, informatics data scientist.
The study examined how new tools, including an updated medical record system and AI alerts, helped doctors identify and treat HER2-low breast cancer patients who were previously missed. It also explored physicians’ perspectives on guidelines and patient responses to post-chemotherapy treatment
“It is rewarding to share discoveries that are transforming treatment options for patients with breast cancer and other breast conditions,” said FCS Chief Technology Officer Trevor Heritage, PhD, who oversees FCS digital innovation strategies and real-world data initiatives that provide access to diversified data assets of cancer-related conditions collected from across nearly 100 clinical sites in the statewide practice.
The complete Proceedings of SABCS® 2025 will be published in Clinical Cancer Research, in the AACR journal, during the second quarter of 2026.
