Radiation Therapy for Skin Cancer – Effective, Non-Invasive Treatment with Excellent Cosmetic Outcomes
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer worldwide. One in five people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with some form of the disease in their lifetime and the risk increases as we age. Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS) provides external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) to treat all forms of skin cancer, including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and certain stages of melanoma. Our expert board-certified radiation oncologists offer focused radiation therapy with precision to kill or prohibit the growth of cancer cells, without harming the surround healthy tissues.

These safe, non-invasive therapies can be an excellent alternative to surgical treatments, offering effective outcomes with the added benefit of better cosmetic results. Patients are usually seen within three to five business days of referral. Shorter courses of therapy delivered in our outpatient clinics offer greater convenience and minimal disruption to daily life.
EBRT is covered by most insurances, Our financial navigation team will thoroughly assess insurance eligibility prior to treatment. We work closely with your physicians to track progress and ensure the best outcomes.

Skin Cancer Facts
Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer. Even though it accounts for only about 1% of skin cancer cases, it has the highest potential to spread (metastasize) to other parts of the body if not detected and treated early.
- Melanoma can develop anywhere on the skin, but usually starts on the chest and back in men and on the legs in women.
- Older adults, those who are fair-skinned or have many moles are generally at greater risk
- Melanoma is nearly 20 times more common in Caucasians than in African Americans.
- When detected early, the five-year survival rate is 99%.
Non-melanoma cancers, such as basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, are much more common but far less likely to be fatal.
Skin Cancer is One of The Most Preventable Cancers
- Most skin cancers are caused by overexposure to UV light rays from the sun or artificial sources, such as tanning beds.
- Even just one blistering sunburn in childhood or adolescence more than doubles a person’s chances of developing skin cancer later in life.
Reduce Your Risk of Skin Cancer
- Whenever you are in the sun, even for just a short time:
- Wear sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30+
- Wear a hat and sunglasses
- Do not use tanning beds
- Avoid exposure to harmful chemicals, including tobacco
- If you notice significant changes or have pain in spots, sores, freckles or moles on your skin, contact your doctor right away.
An annual skin check by a healthcare provider is recommended.
