Richard McDonough, MD

Dr. McDonough is a board-certified oncologist and hematologist for Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute in Pasco County.

Dr. McDonough earned his medical degree from the University of Miami, where he also completed his residency training in internal medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital. He completed a fellowship in hematology/oncology at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida.

He has extensive experience in clinical research with a focus on cervical spine conditions, treatments and surgical reconstruction. He has authored several book chapters and his work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed publications and presented at many notable professional symposiums.

Dr. McDonough has played a leadership role in advocating on behalf of cancer patients to ensure convenient access to high-quality, affordable care and serves FCS as the director of patient advocacy. He served as president of the Florida Society of Clinical Oncology (FLASCO) from 2017 to 2019 and as treasurer from 2014 to 2017.  He has also served on the FLASCO board of directors and currently serves FLASCO director of fellow initiatives and as chair of the Nominating Committee. As a committee member of the Community Oncology Alliance, Dr. McDonough is in frequent contact with members of the U.S. Congress, government agencies and other entities, bringing awareness to public policy issues faced by cancer patients and community oncology providers.

Prior to joining FCS in 2022, Dr. McDonough provided oncology care to patients at Florida Medical Clinic in Zephyrhills, Florida.
