Prashant Desai, MD

Dr. Desai is a board-certified radiation oncologist with Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute in Sumter County.

Dr. Desai has extensive experience in the development and delivery of cutting-edge radiotherapy treatments for patients in community oncology and hospital settings. He held various leadership positions prior to joining FCS in 2025. Dr. Desai served for six years as medical director of radiation oncology at Hackensack Meridian Ocean University Medical Cancer Center in New Jersey, where he established brachytherapy services and a radiopharmaceutical therapy program  and implemented various techniques to enhance treatment safety and effectiveness.

With a strong foundation in mathematics and computer science, Dr. Desai was drawn to radiation oncology by the opportunity to apply advanced technology to solve complex oncologic challenges. Having seen close family and friends affected by cancer, he was motivated to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients.

Dr. Desai received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. During his residency training in radiation oncology at New York-Presbyterian / Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City, he was named clinic resident of the year and was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Additionally, Dr. Desai holds two master’s degrees in computer science and computer applications and has attained certification in artificial intelligence in health care from MIT Sloan School of Management.
