Juan L. Castro, MD
Prior to joining Florida Cancer Specialists, Dr. Castro served for more than 20 years as a member of the medical staff at Health First Cancer Institute (formerly the Space Coast Cancer Center) in Titusville, FL. While there, Dr. Castro participated in the implementation of an Innovative Oncology Medical Home model of cancer care delivery with funding awarded by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
A board-certified hematologist and medical oncologist, Dr. Castro earned his medical degree from the Universidad del Caribe in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus and his fellowship in hematology & oncology at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA. Dr. Castro is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Pan-American Medical Association and the Florida Society of Clinical Oncology.
Throughout his career, Dr. Castro has been consistently recognized for his commitment to collaboration with his colleagues and the compassionate care he provides to his patients. He began his medical career serving the indigent and migrant population of south Texas in a community health center.
Dr. Castro is fluent in both English and Spanish. He and his wife, who was born in Colombia, love to travel. Together with their two daughters they have visited over 50 countries. He enjoys sports, especially soccer and cycling. And although he describes himself as “terrible at it,” he says he does love to dance!
