Foundations Unite to Better Support Brevard Cancer Patients in Need
Cancer Care Centers of Brevard Foundation Joins Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation
Brevard County, Fla. (Nov. 26th, 2018)... Beyond the physical and emotional toll that cancer takes on patients and their families, the financial hardship of treatment can increase the stress families face with a cancer diagnosis. For cancer patients in Brevard County, the merger of Cancer Care Centers of Brevard Foundation into the Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation will provide additional resources and allow for increased grant funding of non-medical living expenses, such as rent, mortgage, car payments, cell phone bills and utility payments.
Funds raised in Brevard County will be restricted to exclusively serve adult cancer patients of the local community. Partner physicians at Florida Cancer Specialists, the country’s largest privately-held medical oncology practice, fund all of the foundation’s administrative and overhead expenses, meaning that 100 percent of all donations to the FCS Foundation go directly to fund patient grants.
“Our decision to join the FCS Foundation came after an exhaustive analysis of potential organizations. Our closely aligned missions and their reputation of excellence serving cancer patients across the state made this a natural fit,” says Cancer Care Centers of Brevard Foundation Chair, Thomas Drago. “This transition will be a big win for Brevard County cancer patients in need. The Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation will efficiently and sustainably provide funding and extend support to our local patients.”
Working from similar organizational missions, both the Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation and the Cancer Care Centers of Brevard Foundation fundamentally believe that no cancer patient should have to choose between paying rent and receiving cancer treatment. Brevard cancer patients who seek funding will have access to the Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation’s online application portal, as well as access to full-time staff and volunteers dedicated to serving local cancer patients.
“We are proud to continue serving cancer patients in Brevard County,” says Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation Executive Director, Lynn Rasys. “We are committed to building upon the legacy established by the Cancer Care Centers of Brevard Foundation.”
The Cancer Care Centers of Brevard Foundation will close its effective November 30, 2018. All patients who currently receive funding from the Cancer Care Centers of Brevard Foundation will receive their remaining in queue annual funding by December 12, 2018. For patients still undergoing treatment in need of financial assistance, grant applications can be submitted to the Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation’s online at Foundation.FLCancer.com/apply/.
