Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute Collaborates with Patient Power To Deliver Enhanced Patient Education Team
Seattle, WA and Orlando, FL – May 13, 2016……… Patient Power has established a new alliance with Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS) – the largest independent medical oncology/hematology practice in the United States.
“We believe Patient Power’s proven expertise in educating patients about cutting-edge cancer treatments will help advance our shared mission of arming cancer patients with information that can help them access world-class cancer care,” says FCS CEO Brad Prechtl. “As a leader in providing clear, credible and current digital content, Patient Power is bridging the knowledge gap between patients and health care providers and taking a patient-centered approach that will help and support the patients we serve.”
Shelly Glenn, Chief Marketing and Sales Officer of Florida Cancer Specialists, added, “When patients are well-informed about their particular cancer, it lays a strong foundation for a continuing dialogue between physician and patient about what is the best treatment plan for each individual patient. The more education we can provide and the more understanding patients have, the better equipped they are to participate in their own healthcare."
Founded in 1984, FCS offers patients access to more clinical trials than any private oncology practice in Florida. Last year, 70 percent of new cancer drugs approved for use in the U.S. were first studied in clinical trials involving FCS pre approval. With more than 190 top-ranked physicians, 150 nurse practitioners and physician assistants, and more than 90 locations, FCS practices care fortreats more than 500,000 patients annually, offering the most advanced therapies in community-based settings close to home.
“Florida has one of the highest incidences of cancer in the U.S., so we are very pleased to work with such a major provider to educate and empower patients and family members right where care is delivered,” says Patient Power founder and two-time cancer survivor, Andrew Schorr. “It is a credit to Florida Cancer Specialists that they are committed to new tools to help their patients feel more confident and in control of their cancer journey.”
Since 2005, Patient Power has produced more than 2,000 educational videos and nearly 3,000 audio programs for people with cancer. Last year alone, nearly 400,000 visitors in 159 countries logged onto patientpower.info, and more than 2 million Patient Power videos were viewed on Oncology Tube.
