Florida Cancer Specialists Renjitha Ignatius, MD Nominated for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Woman of the Year

Sun City, FL – May 6, 2019… Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS) is pleased to announce that Dr. Renjitha Ignatius has been nominated by the Sun Coast Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) as Woman of the Year for 2019. After an intensive nominating and vetting process, Dr. Ignatius accepted the challenge to engage in a spirited competition to raise funds for blood cancer research and patient support programs, which could earn her the coveted title of “Woman of the Year.”

MWOY2019_PressReleaseHeadshot_Ignatius-1Dr. Renjitha Ignatius, who practices at the FCS Sun City Center office, said, “I am personally honored to be nominated, along with my colleagues at FCS, to help raise funds for vital research and patient programs.

LLS lessens the burden for our patients and families through education and financial assistance; through their partnership with oncologists like me, LLS works hard to make a difference in the lives of those living with hematologic malignancies.”

During medical school, Dr. Ignatius had the distinct honor of graduating among the top five students in her class. She completed both her Internal Medicine Residency and Fellowship in Medical Oncology at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine in Royal Oak, MI. Before moving to Florida, Dr. Ignatius served as Associate Professor for Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine and was in private practice for six years in Royal Oak, MI.

Dr. Ignatius has been an active participant in numerous multidisciplinary tumor clinics and has been published in several peer-reviewed journals, including the prestigious Journal of Clinical Oncology. Her areas of interest include malignancies of the breast, head, and neck, as well as gastrointestinal and genitourinary cancers. Dr. Ignatius has extensive experience in treating patients with central nervous system cancers, lung cancer, and hematological conditions. She believes in personalized care for patients, utilizing the best evidence-based treatments available.

FCS CEO, Bradley Prechtl, MBA, said, “So many of our physicians go far beyond their professional commitment of treating cancer patients by agreeing to support fundraising efforts such as this. It is a testimony to the level of compassion and care our doctors have for their patients.”

Dr. Lucio Gordan, FCS President & Managing Physician, added, “As an oncologist and hematologist, I am committed to advancing research that can provide critical knowledge about all forms of cancer. Organizations such as LLS help us do just that and it is particularly gratifying to see so many of the FCS physicians who are willing to contribute to such a deserving organization.
