Florida Cancer Specialists Press Release
Dr. Mark Rubin Recognized by Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute
Nation’s Largest Independent Oncology Group Honors Physician Leader
Fort Myers, FL – January 27, 2017... Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS), the leading community oncology/hematology practice in the state, recently recognized FCS medical oncologist Dr. Mark Rubin, who practices in the Bonita Springs location, for his leadership and his many contributions to the group over the past two decades. Dr. Rubin, who joined Florida Cancer Specialists in 1994, has been a physician leader within the statewide practice and has greatly contributed to several organizational benchmarks.
Dr. Rubin’s contributions in both laboratory and clinical research have advanced the field of oncology in immeasurable ways. During his fellowship at the world-renowned Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, he made significant contributions in the development of the cancer drug Erbitux and first conceived of its use in colon cancer, making him one of the few physicians who has taken a drug from bench to clinic.
FCS CEO Brad Prechtl said, “First and foremost, Dr. Rubin has consistently been an advocate for his patients, providing them with the highest level of care and access to the FCS clinical trials program; he has served as a Principal Investigator or Sub-Investigator on over 100 clinical research trials. As a former member of our Executive Board, Dr. Rubin’s leadership and insight have been invaluable.”
Dr. William Harwin, Founder and President of FCS, added, "When our practice was searching to identify a physician-focused Electronic Medical Record platform, Dr. Rubin took the lead and evaluated numerous options before deciding that, in order to meet the rigorous standards of our busy practice, a better solution had to be developed. He then spent many months and countless hours working with the nation’s premiere medical software designers to create, develop and improve OncoEMR, which today has become the EMR of choice for over half of all practicing community oncologists in the United States. In short, Dr. Rubin’s contributions and dedication have impacted almost every aspect of FCS physicians’ roles and have led to many physicians joining our practice.”
