Tavares, FL – October 13, 2016……… Florida Hospital Waterman Cancer Institute and Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS) have entered a new agreement that will strengthen and expand advanced oncology services in Lake County.

“Florida Hospital Waterman and Florida Cancer Specialists have a long-standing history as partners in the fight against cancer care,” said David Ottati, President and Chief Executive Officer for Florida Hospital Waterman. “The formalization of the partnership helps us further expand collaboration and programs to enhance cancer care available locally in Lake County.”

While Florida Hospital Waterman Cancer Institute and FCS locally have had a longstanding relationship, including shared office space inside the Florida Hospital Waterman Cancer Institute, the new alliance will provide more opportunity for physicians and specialists to work collaboratively while also giving more patients access to the comprehensive Cancer Institute’s support services. We want our patients to have a seamless experience, whether they are seeing a medical oncologist, a radiation oncologist or a surgical oncologist.”

Florida Cancer Specialists is the largest independent medical oncology/hematology practice in the United States. Locally, FCS has nine locations in Lake County, including offices in Clermont, Lady Lake, Leesburg and Tavares, that provide advanced cancer treatments, such as targeted therapies and immunotherapies, as well as one of the most outstanding clinical trial research programs in the state. Florida Hospital Waterman Cancer Institute includes radiation oncology services and comprehensive support and treatment services including patient navigation, support groups, prevention programs, genetics counseling and more.

FCS CEO Bradley Prechtl said, “Our partnership with Florida Hospital Waterman Cancer Institute enhances our ability as a community-based oncology/hematology practice to provide patients with the most comprehensive care, utilizing cutting-edge technologies and advanced treatments. Dr. William Harwin, Founder and President of FCS, added, “Along with the excellent physicians and dedicated staff in our network, we also are able to offer patients access to more national clinical trials than any other oncology practice in the state. Last year, over 70% of all new cancer drugs approved by the FDA were studied in clinical trials in which Florida Cancer Specialists participated.”
