Fort Myers, FL – August 22, 2016……… Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS),the largest independent medical oncology/hematology practice in the United States, is proud to celebrate the opening of a new signature cancer center, located at 8260 Gladiolus Drive in Fort Myers. At 27,000 square feet, the Gladiolus Cancer Center is a multi-million-dollar, state-of-the-art facility that also will be home to the first-in-the-nation Horizon True V PET/CT Scanner from Siemens, which offers next generation imaging technology. The new PET/CT scanner provides clinicians with highly advanced and detailed images, and increases patient comfort by significantly reducing scan times.

FCS CEO Bradley Prechtl said, “This new facility is an example of our continued commitment to bringing the most advanced treatments and cutting-edge technologies to our patients within their own communities, large and small, across Florida. We are particularly proud to serve the Fort Myers community, where Florida Cancer Specialists opened its first office in 1984.”

The practice also offers a patient-centric delivery model to ensure the highest-quality cancer care, including advanced treatments such as immunotherapies and targeted therapies, as well as a variety of services, such as an in-house specialty pharmacy for oral oncolytics and an in-house hematopathology laboratory.

FCS Founder and President Dr. William Harwin said, “We have closed two of our older offices to form this state-of-the-art facility. Among its many advantages, the new center has an expanded infusion area and more than 20 exam rooms to better serve patients with added convenience and comfort.”

Dr. Harwin added, “The Gladiolus Cancer Center, will also continue to have the broadest range of clinical trial research available for our patients. Through our strategic partnership with Sarah Cannon, our patients have access to Phase 1, 2 and 3 trials, many of which would otherwise only be available at academic medical centers and require patients to travel long distances. The heart of our mission is to bring world-class cancer care to local communities where patients can stay close to home and they can be surrounded by family and friends.”

Florida Cancer Specialists offers a full range of oncology and hematology services, including clinical research and the use of evidence-based medicine and proactive patient support services. FCS is a strategic site of the Sarah Cannon Research Institute, one of the leading community-based clinical trial organizations in the United States.
