Florida Cancer Specialists’ Physician Named Chief of Staff at Sarasota Memorial Hospital


Sarasota, FL – December 21, 2012. . . . . . . . . Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS) is pleased to announce that Dr. Richard Brown has been named Chief of Staff at Sarasota Memorial Hospital (SMH). Dr. Brown took the helm in early November at Sarasota Memorial, where he has been a staff member since 1991. As Chief of Staff, Dr. Brown will represent the hospital’s more than 800 medical staff members.

Dr. Brown practices with Florida Cancer Specialists in Sarasota and also serves as an Executive Board Director for the organization. He has been an investigator in multiple clinical trials and is published in several national publications. Dr. Brown received his medical degree from the University of Vermont and his master’s in business administration from Boston University. He completed his residency and internship at the University of Minnesota and his fellowship in oncology and hematology at New York University.

At an impromptu ceremony on December 20, Dr. Brown, who is an avid Bucs’ fan, was presented with an autographed Tampa Bay Buccaneers jersey to commemorate his appointment as Chief of Staff for SMH. Dignitaries who made the presentation were: Gwen MacKenzie, CEO at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Jon Albert, Founder of Jack & Jill Late Stage Cancer Foundation, Shelly Glenn, FCS VP Marketing & Sales, and Debra Betterly, FCS Foundation Manager.
