Syed E. Ahmed, MD
Dr. Ahmed is a medical oncologist with Florida Cancer Specialists and Research Institute in Polk and Highlands counties.
Dr. Ahmed always knew he wanted to be a doctor and was particularly interested in the biology of cancer. He says that during the past five to ten years clinical researchers have gained a better understanding of how cancers interact with the immune system, leading to significant improvements in treatment. He finds it very rewarding to be able to help his patients and reassure them that they will be able to get back to living their normal lives and, often, that their cancer can be cured.
After receiving his medical degree from Pennsylvania State University, Dr. Ahmed participated in clinical research studies at Harvard Medical School and at Cambridge University in Cambridge, United Kingdom. He completed his internal medicine residency and a fellowship in hematology and oncology at Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He is board-certified in medical oncology and internal medicine.
Prior to joining FCS in 2010, Dr. Ahmed provided oncology care to patients in private practice in Sebring, Florida. Active in his local community, he serves as medical director of the American Cancer Society Highlands County Unit.
In his spare time, he enjoys traveling and soccer.
